DPWH Committed to Fast-Tracking Project Implementation Efforts

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will continue to ramp-up government infrastructure projects nationwide stressing its importance to steer and drive economic recovery and key facilitators to balanced development.

DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, while appreciating the current performance, said that the agency is committed to further accelerate the implementation of more projects to immediately create jobs, encourage investments, and increase economic activity.

Filipino people stands to benefit from many projects of the President Rodrigo Roa Duterte administration under the Build, Build, Build program, added Secretary Mercado.

Consistent with the minimum public health standards, Secretary Mercado spearheaded the Unified Directors’ Meeting on November 12, 2021 in Baguio City to review and evaluate the agency’s current performance level towards better final outcome.

The meeting, with a view to ensuring efficiency and effectiveness by determining the level of accomplishment and formulate needed solution that would hasten service delivery, was participated by all the Undersecretaries; Assistant Secretaries; and Regional, Project, Bureau and Service Directors.

Investments on infrastructure will primarily fuel government plan to quickly and smoothly get back to growth trajectory considering the multiplier effects of construction such as wages for employment and growth opportunities for local suppliers and contractors.

With infrastructure as the cornerstone of economic recovery from the pandemic, our goal is for a more effective resource management by optimizing the budget of the Department and level this financial investments vis-à-vis with physical accomplishments, said Secretary Mercado.

Actual disbursements of the Department for current and previous year funds as of end of October 2021 is at ₱527.2 Billion.

For over five years from 2016 to 2021, a total of 101,291 projects under the Regular Infrastructure Program were completed by DPWH.

Secretary Mercado reiterated that collaboration across DPWH team will be the key strategy to accelerate the completion of more projects.

DPWH is eyeing to launch, finish and inaugurate more Duterte Legacy projects before the administration’s term end on June 30 next year.
