DPWH to implement orders vs corruption

THE Department of Public Works and Highways will immediately implement all measures to reduce corruption, as directed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said the measures include reshuffling the department’s district engineers.

Following the order of the President, DPWH continues to implement all possible measures to minimize corruption. We have a zero tolerance policy to bribery and corruption. The President’s directive will be immediately implemented,” he said.

Duterte disclosed Monday the names of House members who have been linked to alleged corruption related to infrastructure projects. He also relieved from their posts the DPWH district engineers who are involved in the corrupt practices alleged before the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission.

Villar said he will talk to the relieved district engineers on Monday.

Duterte asked Villar to give him a list of all district engineers in the country after claiming that several of them worked in connivance with congressmen for corrupt activities.

Villar said the DPWH will comply and submit the list to the President.

The DPWH secretary warned district engineers of harsh punishment if they are proven involved in corruption.

Kailangan maayos tayo magtrabaho. Kung hindi, definitely, we will be very strict. Mabigat ang parusa sa mga hindi makikinig,” he, meanwhile, said at the sidelines of the partial opening of the 18-km Skyway Stage 3 project.
