The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the DSWD Academy, conducted its fifth paralegal course training for social workers and development practitioners from July 29 to August 2 in Cebu City.

Some 36 trainees from various local government units (LGUs) attended the 5-day training to improve their knowledge and skills in handling court-related cases in the Central Visayas Region.

“This initiative is not merely a training program but a testament to the DSWD Academy’s proactive approach in bridging the gap between legal knowledge and social welfare practice,” Undersecretary for Standards and Capacity Building Group (SCBG) Denise Florence Bernos-Bragas said in her opening remarks.

Also present in the training was Social Welfare Institutional Development Bureau (SWIDB) Director Justin Caesar Anthony Batocabe, who underscored the DSWD Academy’s unwavering commitment to excellence in professional development and service delivery.

“As participants return to their respective roles armed with enhanced legal competence, they are better poised to advocate for the rights of vulnerable clients and deliver more informed and impactful support,” Director Batocabe said.

The DSWD Academy is one of the priority programs of Secretary Rex Gatchalian that offers learning opportunities for the development of the competencies of its partner stakeholders that are needed in the delivery of social welfare and development (SWD), as well as social protection (SP) programs and services.
