DSWD chief cites ways to amplify social protection for Pinoys in post-SONA discussion

Speaking before the post-State of the Nation Address (SONA) Discussion on Health and Social Protection on Tuesday (July 29), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian tackles the agency’s initiatives to enhance social welfare programs and services aligned with national priorities cited by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his 4th SONA.

The DSWD chief particularly shed light on plans to amend the law of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to better give indigent Filipinos the means to break the cycle of poverty, as well as the ways forward to expand the reach of the Walang Gutom Program (WGP) and Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP).

Other government officials who joined the post-SONA thematic discussion held at the Makabagong San Juan National Government Center in San Juan City were Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Senior Vice President of the Health Finance Policy Sector Israel Francis Vargas.
