The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to mobilize extensive relief operations in the Visayas region as Secretary Rex Gatchalian revisited the provinces affected by Typhoon Tino.
The sustained visits of the DSWD chief aims to ensure that timely and adequate support reaches families whose homes and livelihoods were severely damaged during the onslaught of ‘Tino.’
In his recent visit to Negros Occidental, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led a situation briefing with Cabinet secretaries, national agencies, and local chief executives to evaluate the extent of the damage by the typhoon and to fast-track government’s rehabilitation measures for central Negros Occidental.
Secretary Gatchalian has emphasized that coordinated efforts by various government agencies remain a top priority.
“After Southern Leyte, I flew to Negros Occidental to meet with Governor Lacson and the mayors of Typhoon Tino–affected local government units. We plotted ways forward to ensure the recovery of their constituents.” Secretary Gatchalian said on a social media post on Saturday (November 15).
The DSWD’s Field Office-Negros Island Region (NIR) facilitated the distribution of essential relief items to families in severely-hit localities in Negros Occidental on Saturday (November 15).
The FO-NIR also distributed cash aid amounting to Php2.42 million under the DSWD’s emergency cash transfer (ECT) program. A total of 140 families with totally damaged houses received Php 10,000 each, while 204 families with partially damaged houses received Php 5,000 each.
In addition to the cash assistance, DSWD’s FO-NIR distributed family food packs (FFPs), hygiene kits, and sleeping kits to families in evacuation centers from the affected barangays of Binalbagan, La Castellana, Toboso, and Himamaylan City.
The DSWD’s continuing dispatch of relief goods aims to ensure that displaced families have adequate food and essential supplies while recovery efforts remain underway.
The Department’s continuous distribution of assistance and other essential services is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure that every disaster-affected family will receive the necessary government support throughout the recovery process. (KI)
