DSWD chief visits community-led livelihood project in Ilog, Negros Occidental

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Friday (January 15) visits two successful Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) funded projects in Barangay Bocana in the Municipality of Ilog, Negros Occidental.

The DSWD chief, together with Negros Occidental 6th District Rep. Mercedes “Cheding” Alvarez, Ilog Mayor John Paul Alvarez and Vice Mayor John Paulo Alvarez toured the Seafood Bagsakan Center and Mud Crab Farming site of the Ilog Entrepreneur Associations SLPA.

The said livelihood projects were made possible through the DSWD’s SLP under the Micro-Enterprise Development Track. The Ilog Entrepreneur Associations SLPA is composed of former Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries who worked hard to make the two livelihood projects successful.

Secretary Gatchalian said the beneficiaries received Php315,000 in capital assistance from the SLP for the establishment of the Bagsakan Center and the mud crab farm. The livelihood projects have since grown and have created job opportunities for the community.

Joining the project visit were Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group Irene Dumlao and DSWD Field Office – Negros Island Region (NIR) Regional Director Arwin O Razo. (NT)
