DSWD, DEPDev bring holiday smiles to Walang Gutom Kitchen beneficiaries during outreach program

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Asst. Secretary Baldr Bringas joins Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan during DEPDev’s outreach program, bringing cheers to families, children and individuals dining at the Walang Gutom Kitchen in Pasay City on Friday (November 28).

Asst. Secretary Bringas thanked the DEPDev for being the donor of the day and volunteer servers of the day.

Secretary Balisacan led DEPDev officials and personnel in serving hot meals to beneficiaries and distributing grocery packages.

The DEPDev also turned over books and art materials for the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program corner to help create a more engaging learning space for children.

Also joining the outreach program were DEPDev Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon, Undersecretary Ma. Monica Pagunsan, and Asst. Secretary Agnes Tolentino. (YADP)

DSWD grateful to DEPDev’s meaningful anniversary outreach at Walang Gutom Kitchen

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) expressed its gratitude to the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) for a meaningful outreach activity, coinciding with its 90th anniversary, at the Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) on Friday (November 28).

“Today’s celebration highlights not just history, but the collective dedication of the government, its partners, and the Filipino public in advancing inclusive development. It is in this spirit that the Department of Social Welfare and Development is grateful and honored to take part in this milestone,” Asst. Secretary Baldr Bringas of the DSWD’s Innovations and Program Development Group (IPDG) said in his message.

To commemorate the 90 years of socioeconomic planning department, DEPDev Secretary Arsenio Balisacan led the outreach by serving nutritious hot meals to families, children, and individuals in street situations who are the main clients of the kitchen.

Asst. Secretary Bringas said initiatives like this reflect the commitment of both the DSWD and DEPDev to inclusive and compassionate service.

“Through your partnership with the Walang Gutom Kitchen and the Pag-abot Program, we are able to contribute to this commemoration by bringing a meaningful activity—a community feeding initiative that reflects our shared aspiration for a compassionate Philippines,” Asst. Secretary Bringas said.

Beneficiaries also received grocery packages—canned goods, coffee, chocolate drink, noodles, and other food items—prepared by the DEPDev.

The DEPDev (formerly the National Economic and Development Authority or NEDA) also donated books, art materials, and toys for the use of children at Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program corner inside the food bank.

In his message, DEPDev Secretary Balisacan lauded the DSWD as he described the WGK as a meaningful venue for government celebrations and gatherings.

“This is really walk-the-talk. Yung sinasabi nating inclusivity, walang maiiwanan, at yung target natin dito ay yung mga underprivileged. So congratulations to the DSWD. In the future, let us do things like this… This is more meaningful to me. I relate to this kind of activity because this is where I came from. I know so well kung paano magutom kasi dumaan ako doon,” Secretary Balisacan said.

The WGK is one of the DSWD’s innovative programs that help realize the long-time aspiration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to end hunger and ensure that no Filipino family should go hungry. (YADP)
