‘As we celebrate National Family Week, let us take a moment to recognize the vital role families play in our society. Families are the foundation of our communities, nurturing values, culture, and resilience.”
This is the main message of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary for Policy and Plans Group Adonis Sulit, who is also the Alternate Chairperson of the National Committee on the Filipino Family (NCFF), as he greeted Filipino families on behalf of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian on the eve of Family Week.
The nation is set to observe the 32nd National Family Week on September 23 to 27 pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 60 issued on September 28, 1992, which declared the fourth week of September every year as Family Week.
The event aims to promote and strengthen family unity and relationship through meaningful celebration and promotion of Filipino values.
Undersecretary Sulit urged families to take the opportunity to engage in activities that will strengthen family ties.
“Share stories, create memories, and foster open communication with every member of your family. Let us also extend our support to those families in need, ensuring that every Filipino has access to the resources and opportunities they deserve,” the NCFF alternate chairperson pointed out.
The DSWD also encourages every Filipino family to observe the “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day” on Monday (September 23).
Through Memorandum Circular 64, the Office of the President (OP) suspended work in government offices in the Executive branch at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
“Spend mealtime, bond, and connect with your families,” Undersecretary Sulit said.
This year’s celebration carries the theme “Pamilyang Tutugon sa Pagbabago ng Panahon,” which was adopted from the 2024 International Day of Families theme, “Families and Climate Change”.
