The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to intensify its disaster response operations as Tropical Storm Enteng accelerates over Northern Luzon, an official of the agency’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) said on Tuesday (September 3).
“Sa kasalukuyan, ongoing pa rin po ang isinasagawa natin na koordinasyon sa LGUs [with local government units] especially that Enteng is battering naman the Northern part of the country, Region 2 (Cagayan Valley),” DRMG Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who is also the agency spokesperson, said in an interview over Radio Pilipinas, the flagship AM radio station of the Presidential Broadcast Service (PBS).
Based on the September 3 DSWD-Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) report, there are 219 families or 805 individuals in the Cagayan Valley Region affected by the weather disturbance.
The DSWD Field Office (FO) 2-Cagayan Valley is closely coordinating with all Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) and Local Social Welfare and Development Office (LSWDO) to monitor their respective areas of responsibility.
The DRMG official pointed out that the DSWD is ready to provide augmentation support to the LGUs affected by the tropical storm compounded by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
“In fact, nationwide, mayroon tayong total stand by funds and stockpile na nagkakahalaga ng mahigit Php2 billion at ang ating mga prepositioned goods ay nakahanda,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.
As of September 2, the DSWD has responded to the requests for augmentation support from the LGUs, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCR), CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas according to the DRMG asst. secretary.
“Ang atin pong mga natanggap na requests from the LGUs for augmentation support ay nasa mahigit 140,000 na FFPs… and ang DSWD ay nakapaghatid na ng support to these LGUs,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.
Currently, the DSWD maintains more than 1.73 million boxes of FFPs strategically prepositioned in the different warehouses across the country.
DSWD checks on status of displaced families in Baseco evacuation center

Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office (DSWD) – National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday (Sep. 3) checks on the condition of evacuees at the Baseco National Highschool who were affected by the heavy rain and flooding brought about by Tropical Storm “Enteng.”
Over 50 families or 200 individuals from Barangay 649 in Manila are taking temporary shelter at the Baseco evacuation center.
As part of the Agency’s relief operation, the DSWD FO – NCR is actively coordinating with concerned local government units (LGUs) to determine the status of the evacuees and other affected communities to provide additional assistance.
DSWD chief visits ‘Enteng’ evacuees in Antipolo

Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary (DSWD) Rex Gatchalian visits on Tuesday (September 3) the 107 families or 369 individuals who are currently staying in an evacuation center at the Jesus S. Cabarus Elementary School in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City after they were displaced at the height of Tropical Storm Enteng.
Secretary Gatchalian oversaw the distribution of family food packs (FFPs) and Php10,000 financial aid, through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS), to each of the evacuees.
The DSWD chief was joined by Rizal Governor Nina Ynares, Agimat Partylist Rep. Bryan Revilla, and Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares.
DSWD officials who accompanied Secretary Gatchalian in his visit to Antipolo City were Undersecretary for Disaster Response and Management (DRMG) Diana Rose Cajipe, Field Office-CALABARZON Regional Director Barry Chua, and Asst. Regional Director Mylah Gatchalian.
DSWD-Calabarzon distributes relief aid to Cainta evacuees

Personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office – CALABARZON distribute on Tuesday (September 3) family food packs (FFPs) to 198 families or 857 individuals staying in the evacuation center at the Kabisig Elementary School in Barangay San Andres in Cainta, Rizal province.
The distribution of FFPs coincided with the visit of DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian where he checked on the condition of the evacuees.
Earlier, the DSWD chief also visited an evacuation center in Antipolo City where he oversaw the distribution of relief and financial aid to the evacuees.
DSWD Chief visits disaster response office in San Pedro, Laguna

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian meets with officials of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) in San Pedro, Laguna on Tuesday (Sep. 3) where he received updates on the on-going disaster response operations in the province.
The DSWD Chief, who was joined by Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Undersecretary Diana Cajipe, checked on the status of affected families and evacuees in the municipality, as well as the number of Family Food Packs (FFPs) that were already distributed to communities severely impacted by the Tropical Storm Enteng.
Also present in the meeting were DSWD Region 4-A – Calabarzon Regional Director Barry Chua, and Asst. Director Mylah Gatchalian, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Asst. Secretary Rolando Puno and San Pedro Mayor Art Mercado.
DSWD Bicol FO continues relief operation for displaced families in Naga City

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 5 – Bicol Region continues on Tuesday (Sep. 3) its relief operations for displaced families in Naga City, Camarines Sur.
A total of 100 displaced families in Barangays Del Rosario, Dinaga, and Concepcion Grande received boxes of FFPs and 6 liters of bottled water.
The FO-5 also provided hot meals to the eight remaining families stranded at the Pasacao Port in Camarines Sur.
