DSWD road projects in Argao, Cebu hope to boost tourism

Argao Cebu Road Project

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), turned over two access roads to Barangays Catang and Bulasa in the municipality of Argao, Cebu.

The construction of these 0.275 KM and 0.0930 KM roads in Catang and Bulasa, respectively, is part of the KALAHI-CIDSS and the municipality of Argao’s goals to attract more tourists in the province while opening more opportunities to the community, neighboring towns and provinces, and provide accessible transportation.

During the turn over ceremony, DSWD Field Office VII Regional Director Rebecca P. Geamala applauded the KALAHI-CIDSS field staff and local officials for proactively anticipating the needs of the town post COVID-19 Pandemic. “It is really our pleasure to serve everyone with their need for development,” Dir. Geamala said.

Municipal Mayor Allan M. Sesaldo also expressed his gratitude to everyone who cooperated to accomplish this development project.

“Progress should be spearheaded by local officials and community members must be allowed to take part,” he added.

The same with Mayor Sesaldo, Bulasa Punong Barangay Francisco Hannibal C. Diez also expressed his happiness and appreciation for this project.

“Dako akong kalipay nga gihatagan mi og ingon ani nga proyekto. Kini maghatag namo og kalamboan, dili lang sa amoang kaugalingon apil na usab ang among giserbisyohan nga katawhan” (We are very happy to have been given this project. This will provide growth not only for ourselves but also for the people we serve), Punong Barangay Diez said.

The municipality of Argao is known for its beach resorts, history-old churches, and museums, which reflect the rich history of the town. Due to the limited movement of people caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the influx of tourists decreased.

DSWD will continue to support community development and will ensure that the community will not only benefit from the sub-projects in terms of transport and ease of access but will also open opportunities while attracting more tourists.

KALAHI-CIDSS is a program that uses a community-driven development strategy to ensure people-centered development by providing assistance, capacity-building, and implementation support to poverty-disadvantaged and disaster-affected municipalities. Through the program, community members actively participate to identify and prioritize their community’s problems and allow them to design, implement, and manage solutions to their priority problems.
