The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) centers and residential care facilities (CRCFs) are always ready to provide vital support services to the vulnerable, abandoned, abused, neglected sectors and those in need of special care.
According to Jose Fabella Center (JFC) Head Glenda Derla, the Department has residential and non-residential care facilities to accommodate disadvantaged and vulnerable sectors to improve their well-being.
“Ang DSWD po ay nagpo-provide ng vital support and services sa iba-iba pong marginalized groups and individuals. Ang atin pong CRCFs ay nahahati sa dalawa. We have non-residential and residential care facilities. Sa National Capital Region (NCR), we have 13 operational centers, iyan po ay nag-cacater ng iba’t-ibang sektor,” Center Head Derla explained on Saturday (December 13) over DZMM’s Serbisyong DSWD for Every Juan.
Center Head Derla pointed out that the DSWD’s residential care facilities cater 24/7 to the abandoned, neglected, and abused individuals, groups, and families, including children, youth, women, elderly, and improved patients with mental health concerns.
One of the residential care facilities of the DSWD is the JFC, which is located in Mandaluyong City.
The JFC Head said they try to provide a home-like atmosphere for their clients who are male mental health patients in order to help improve their condition.
“Pino-provide po natin ang mga basic needs nila. Simula sa pag-gising hanggang sa pagtulog po nila, pino-provide po natin lahat po iyon. Simula sa hygiene and grooming, ina-aassist po natin. Lahat ng mga pangangailangan nila from food, damit, medicines, lahat po binibigyan natin,” the JFC Head told the DZMM program anchors.
Aside from the JFC, other residential care facilities of the DSWD in Metro Manila are the Golden Reception and Action Center for the Elderly and Other Special Cases (GRACES), Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC), Elsie Gaches Village, Nayon ng Kabataan, Marillac Hills, Haven for Children, Haven for Women, Sanctuary Center, and the Tahanan ng Inyong Pag-Asa or T.I.P. Center of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT).
For non-residential care facilities, the Department has three facilities in Metro Manila that cater to persons with disabilities and people experiencing grief.
“Sa non-residential, ito po yung 8 hours yung kanilang services on a weekday basis. Day center sya na iba-iba po ang kini-cater din. Karamihan po sa kine-cater namin for non-residential are persons with disability, yung for skills training, for sheltered employment, and then, we also have unique na center po for grief management po yung focus natin,” Center Head Derla pointed out.
These non-residential care facilities are the INA Healing Center, the National Vocational Rehabilitation Center (NVRC), and Rehabilitation Sheltered Workshop (RSW), which are all located in Quezon City.
For concerned citizens who wish to refer clients to any DSWD CRCF, Center Head Derla emphasized that clients must first undergo assessment by social workers from the Local Social Welfare and Development Office (LSWDO), as local government units (LGUs) are responsible for endorsing and referring cases to the Department.
“Ang mga requirements po, naka-base rin po kami sa assessment ng social worker from the local government unit, lalo na kung residente po sila roon,” the JFC Head said.
The ‘Serbisyong DSWD for Every Juan’ is aired over DZMM Teleradyo 630 every Saturday from 11 am to 12 noon, and anchored by veteran broadcaster Alvin Elchico with Jet Guevarra of the DSWD’s Public Relations Service as co-anchor. (AKDL)
