Ecija conducts AstraZeneca vax rollout for health workers

CABANATUAN CITY — Nueva Ecija conducted the first-ever vaccine roll-out for provincial healthcare workers among the country’s provinces using the AstraZeneca vaccine

This after Gov. Aurelio M. Umali and his brother Vice Gov. Emmanuel Antonio M. Umali witnessed the ceremonial vaccination of medical frontliners at the provincial government-run Eduardo L. Joson Memorial Hospital on Monday here.

Some 836 medical frontliners of the provincial government, including those from the other 10 provincial hospitals are expected to be inoculated with the initial arrival of the AstraZeneca vaccines here amid the intensified campaign against the pandemic being launched by the provincial government through the inter-agency task force chaired by Umali.

In the Facebook page of Serbisyong Matapat para sa Novo Ecijano, Provincial Health Team Leader Dr. Edwin V. Santiago, of the Department of Health-Nueva Ecija, said the province is the first local government unit among the provinces in the country which conducted the vaccine rollout for its healthcare workers.

Last January, it was reported that the provincial government secured some 300,000 doses of the vaccine from British pharmaceutical AstraZeneca in a tripartite agreement with the national government.

Also last week, Umali and Cabanatuan City Mayor Myca Elizabeth Vergara witnessed the ceremonial vaccine rollout of China’s Sinovac for frontliners at the PJGMRMC facility here.
