Ecija fish dealer shot by holdupper, hurt

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija — A farmer engaged in the buy and sell of fresh fish products was shot and wounded after being held up at gunpoint by a lone suspect Sunday morning here.

Town police head Major Rammel Ebarle said farmer-fish dealer Loreto Garcia, 51, of Along-along St., Bgy. Papaya was resting on a hammock hanging between his tricycle and a tree while waiting for local fishermen to arrive and sell their produce to him when the armed suspect came and at gunpoint declared a holdup.

The unidentified robber then fired at the victim and grabbed his sling bag containing about P29,000 cash before fleeing towards an unknown direction.

The robbery-shooting incident occurredalong an interior road near a farmland at the victim’s residence at 9:30 a.m.

Ebarle said the victim sustained gunshot wounds at the back of the head and his right arm and was rushed to the Nueva Ecija Medical Center in San Leonardo town for emergency treatment.

Probers recovered an empty fired cartridge case of a still unknown caliber from the crime scene.
