CABANATUAN CITY – Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio M. Umali has revealed he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Umali said he was swabbed via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test the next day and it was confirmed that he was infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Umali ordered the provincial police under Col. Jaime O. Santos to intensify the conduct of border checkpoint operations amid the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in the country that led the national government to place the National Capital Region and the four provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal under the stricter general community quarantine starting March 22 until April 4.
In Nueva Ecija, Santos said he assigned at least 13 border checkpoints for easy and quick monitoring while 20 another quarantine control points have been designated in strategic areas throughout the province.
As of the latest COVID-19 update, the total active cases in the province surged from 125 cases to 169. The IATF said 32 active cases were recorded in the first first district, 22 in the second district, 67 in the third district and 48 in the fourth district.
