Ecija gov’t worker falls in P1.8M drug bust

PEŇARANDA, Nueva Ecija – Nueva Ecija police nabbed a 46-year-old government worker and seized some P1.8-million worth of shabu during a sting here on Sunday night.

In his report to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano T. De Leon, provincial police director Col. Marvin Joe C. Saro identified the arrested suspect as Larry Torres, alias Puga, of Bgy. Poblacion IV, this town.

Saro said the drug bust was conducted by members of the provincial drug enforcement unit and the provincial intelligence unit led by Lt. Dennis R. Leonardo and the local police under Captain Williard L. Dulnuan.

The suspect did not resist arrest when undercover lawmen handcuffed him after selling P3,000 worth of shabu to a police poseur-buyer in Bgy. Poblacion IV at 10:30 p.m.

Seized during the operation were two plastic sachets of shabu, another 18 plastic sachets containing shabu weighing about 265 grams with an estimated street value of P1.8-million, and P3,000 in buy-bust money.

Saro said the operation came amid strict directives earlier from De Leon to implement pro-active anti-narcotics measures and to intensify their operations in the Central Luzon with only more than a year and seven months left in the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 were slapped against the arrested suspect before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
