Ecija man nabbed for stealing kolong-kolong

LLANERA, Nueva Ecija — Police nabbed a suspected carnapper who was caught driving a stolen “kolong-kolong” (motorcycle with attached skeleton-sidecar) during the implementation of “Patrulya ng Bayan” here the other day.

Provincial police officer-in-charge Col. Marvin Joe C. Saro said his men arrested Ernesto Ilagan III, 25, alias Estong, single, of Sitio Baong, Bgy. Labi, Bongabon, Nueva Ecija shortly after the latter stole the kolong-kolong owned by vegetable vendor Laverlyn Gabriel-Javier, 39, of Purok 3, Bgy. Bagumbayan, this town.

Police Captain Sandy Bautista, town police head, said the suspect was already bound for nearby Rizal town en route to Bongabon when he was accosted at a Patrulya ng Bayan checkpoint shortly after the carnapping incident which occurred at 4 p.m. here.

Javier positively identified the suspect as the same person who stole her black Rusi motorcycle with attached improvised sidecar while parked in front of her store.

Saro said charges for violation of the Anti-Carnapping Law or Republic Act 6539 as amended by R.A. 10883 have been filed against the arrested suspect.

The arrest of the suspect came amid aggressive efforts by the police to become more visible on the streets through the implementation of intensified anti-criminality checkpoints, including the putting up of Patrulya ng Bayan control points in the town’s key areas.

Saro also reminded Novo Ecijanos to be always vigilant and wary of their surroundings, and to secure their personal things and belongings at all times during this pandemic.
