PALAYAN CITY – City Mayor Adrianne Mae “Rianne” Cuevas came to the rescue of her Typhoon Ulysses-battered constituents as she brought with her an “army of carpenters” and the construction materials needed for the immediate restoration of their devastated homes.

At least 17 houses were destroyed by the typhoon in Sitio Pinaltakan, Bgy. Caballero here. The mayor wasted no time to visit the area on Tuesday to make sure restoration works immediately started.

Cuevas also visited Bgy. Atate on Wednesday and Bgys. Popolon and Manacnac on Thursday to assist distressed residents affected by the typhoon.

There is a strong need to be with our people during these tragic times. We need to run to their side and comfort them. Help them build back not just their homes, but also their lives,” said Cuevas, who is now on her last and final term as city mayor.

Aside from bringing in a construction crew, Cuevas said she shouldered all the expenses for the construction materials using her personal money, noting that it would take more time if the same would undergo normal government procurement process such as biddings and other procedures.

Among the construction materials brought by the city mayor were roofing sheets, bags of cement, good lumber, sawali wallings, construction nails and tie wires.

Cuevas said that after making sure the debris caused by the typhoon was cleared out from the main highways and the barangay roads, she is now focused on helping her troubled kalungsods whose houses were blown away by Ulysses.

The mayor is thankful that despite the floodings, massive rains, and strong winds, this capital city of the province incurred zero casualties.

This is for all of you, Palayanos, like I always say, I will never allow any of my constituents to live without roofs over their heads,” Cuevas told the typhoon victims.
