A NEOPHYTE Metro Manila lawmaker on Sunday sought to increase the monthly salary of public school teachers to P46,791.00 considering their significant contribution to Philippine education.
House Assistant Majority Leader and Quezon City Rep. Anthony Peter “Onyx” D. Crisologo, a member of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) led by House Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez as President, filed House Bill (HB) No. 2226, which aims to upgrade the salary grade of public school teachers from salary grade 11 to 19 or making it a monthly P46,791.00.
Crisologo said teachers are the nucleus of any education system, adding they are the core knowledge and skill building of any society.
Unfortunately, Crisologo said they still do not receive the commensurate compensation and benefits that is more appropriate with their workload and responsibilities due them despite their significant contribution in nation building.
He further said that HB 2226 intends to augment the salary of teachers to acknowledge their efforts and create an optimal solution that is more responsive to their needs.
Consistent with Section 18 of the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers, HB 2226 also seeks to align compensation of teachers with the perennial rise of the cost of living in our country and to provide them with better access to a quality of life that would boost their morale as individuals.
The Metro Manila lawmaker also said it is imperative that the government take pertinent measures to motivate our educators to explore their full potential as facilitators of knowledge in our country by having financial stability.
“With or without this pandemic. Our public school teachers still deserves a salary increase, because by upgrading their salary. They will be able to focus on their craft and continue to discover ways of leveling it up. Honoring our country’s teachers and giving emphasis on the importance of their well-being is a just and right investment to secure the highest quality of service they can provide to future generation,” Crisologo said.Publication Source : People's Tonight
