CEBU City policemen remained the top drugbusters in Central Visayas region confiscating nearly P83 million worth of shabu and other prohibited drugs in the city and jailing dozens of ‘high-value targets’ in the area since the month started, Police Regional Office 7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas told the Journal Group yesterday.
According to Sinas, the Cebu City Police Office headed by a female cop, Colonel Gemma Vinluan conducted more than 180 anti-narcotics operations since the start of August resulting in the seizure of nearly P72 million worth of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine,’ around P5 million worth of marijuana leaves and P10,000 worth of Nubain ampules. Vinluan succeeded another outstanding PNP Academy graduate, Colonel Royina Garma, who has been appointed by President Duterte as general manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
In a report to Philippine National Police chief, General Oscar D. Albayalde, the official said more than 15 known drug personalities were arrested as a result of those anti-narcotics efforts.
Late last week, a string of anti-narcotics operations in Cebu City resulted in the arrest of eight known ‘high-value targets’ in the region and the confiscation of over P13 million worth of shabu, Sinas said.
In a report to General Oscar D. Albayalde, the official said that two of the suspects identified as Alvin Barrientos and Whimsey Bayang were nabbed after they conspired to sell 300 grams of shabu valued at P2.040 million to an undercover agent in Industry Street, Barangay Tejero, Cebu City.
Sinas said that four other suspects were arrested during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Viking, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City at 12:30 a.m. Thursday which led in the recovery of around 1.350 grams of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ worth P9,180,000.
Sinas identified the four as Benerando Gemperoso Jr. alias ‘Junjun,’ 27; his brother Joven, 29; Beverlyn Medina, 26; and Regie Medina, 29, all residents of Sitio Viking.
The official said members of the Cebu City Police Station 10 led by Major Henrix Bancoleta arrested the four after they conspired to sell the drugs to an undercover officer.
The operation planned by the Cebu City Police Office led in the recovery of one large heat-sealed plastic sachet with shabu which was sold by the suspects to the poseur, 53 plastic packets with the banned drugs and the P40,000 worth of boodle money topped by a marked P500 bill.
Another operation in Sitio Kabayaoan in Bgy. Inayawan, Cebu City also resulted in the arrest of another ‘HVT’ after he sold 80 grams of shabu worth P544,000 to an agent about at 2:30 a.m. Thursday.
The 6th was arrested during a sting in Sitio Lawis in Bgy. Pasil, Cebu City after he sold drugs to a poseur past 3 p.m. Thursday. Sinas said the suspect yielded 205 grams of shabu valued at P1.394 million.
All suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Sinas.
The member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Hinirang’ Class of 1987 is leading the Central Visayas police force’s massive drive against criminality, drug trafficking, terrorism and corruption in the region since the start of the Duterte presidency.
PRO7 agents have made major drug accomplishments since the year started including the arrest of a partner of a detained suspected Cebu City drug lord who yielded around P8.5 million worth of shabu last January; and the neutralization of a notorious Ecstasy dealer in a Cebu shootout last July.
