Heard that veteran Manila Councilor Bernardito ‘Bernie’ Ang will be the incoming secretary to the mayor of Manila Mayor-elect Isko Moreno.
If this is true -- and I do really hope it is -- then Moreno has made the right and wise choice.
No offense, but among the present crop of sitting councilors in Manila -- there are 38, including the sectoral representatives -- Councilor Ang is the most seasoned and easily, the brightest.
He authored the local tax code of Manila and has also introduced countless meaningful ordinances and resolutions that got passed in the Manila City Council.
Ang, who for the nth time has completed three-terms as a Councilor for Manila’s third district, is also known for consistently making a principled stand on issues that affect the general citizenry of Manila, even at the expense of losing votes or drawing the ire of the powers-that-be.
As a mere councilor, Ang had been able to help countless. With his new appointment, I’m certain he would be able to help more.
The position of the ‘secretary to the mayor’ is crucial for any sitting mayor, since the one holding that post serves as an extension of the city executive, more than any other positions in City Hall. In other words, he is the ‘little mayor.’
I know this for sure, having covered the Manila City Hall beat for a very long time already. I won’t mention the year I started on the grounds that doing so might incriminate me (read: reveal my true age). Hahahh.

KUDOS TO SM HP STAFF -- A customer extends her gratitude to Ms. Ethel Minguez, sales clerk at the ladies’ sleepwear section at the SM Department Store in Harrison Plaza for her honesty.
The customer said she left her signature glasses at the fitting room and when she returned, although hours later, it was readily handed over to her by Minguez, who had found the glasses when she cleared the fitting room.
Minguez said that her manager Corazon Domingo had instilled in them, the staff, the culture of honesty in and out of their workplace. Kudos!!!
