SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go has stressed anew the importance of accelerating the government’s vaccination efforts not only in the metropolis but elsewhere.
People are made to believe that to attain herd immunity, the government ought to vaccinate from 50 to 70 million of the more than 100 million Filipinos by the end of 2021.
Go acknowledged the difficulty in acquiring COVID-19 vaccines, but “ginagawa ni Secretary (Carlito) Galvez Jr. ang lahat para mapabilis ang pagdating ng mga bakuna.”
A retired military general, Galvez is chief implementer of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19.
While waiting for the arrival of the vaccines, Go, chairman of the Senate committee on health, called on the general public to ensure that health guidelines are strictly followed.
“Sumunod po tayo sa mga paalaala ng gobyerno at …dapat (magkaroon) ng mas maraming vaccination centers upang maiwasan natin ang pagkukumpulan ng tao,” he said.
Go added: “Disiplina, social distancing, hugas ng kamay, mask at face shield muna tayo. ‘Yan naman ay napatunayan na 90 percent maiiwasan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19.”
The issue of hard-headedness of people, notably in heavily-populated areas, is a potent factor that can derail much of what has been achieved in the fight against the virus.
Truth is, when police and other law enforcement authorities are not around, many people do not wear mask and face shield and engage in drinking sessions.
Our hard-headedness must be addressed if we are to win the fight against the dreaded COVID-19.
