No political agenda

Covid19 cases

SOME quarters still “doubt” the word of Constitutional-change (Cha-cha) advocates, including members of Congress, that they have “absolutely no political agenda” in pushing for charter reforms.

Note that in the past, all attempts to railroad Cha-cha failed because of the Filipino people’s fear that proponents were actually after the lifting of term limits of elective officials, including the President.

Admittedly, this is the major problem that Cha-cha advocates face, knowing full well that there are politicians, notably local government officials, who would like nothing else than to hold on to their positions.

An irate voter said that “ito yong mga lingkod-bayan na isinusuka na ng mga botante dahil wala naman silang ginawa kundi ang magpahirap sa taumbayan,” adding “wala ng boboto sa kanila sa 2022.

But the Filipino people believe that Duterte is sincere when he assured the public that he would not extend his term of office, which ends at 12 noon on June 30, 2022, as the country’s Chief Executive.

Akala nila may term extension. My God, maski ibigay mo sa akin on a silver platter, maski ibigay mo sa akin (ng) libre, another 10 years, sabihin ko sa iyo…iyo na lang yan. Tapos na ako,” said Duterte.

At the same time, the Chief Executive, a lawyer and former state prosecutor from impoverished but natural resources-rich Mindanao, declared that the Philippine presidency is “unsuitable for a woman.

Hindi ito (presidency) pambabae…Magiging gago ka dito,” President Duterte said during last Thursday’s inauguration of the Metropolitan Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project in Quezon City.

Duterte made the statement after rumors persisted that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, was being urged to seek the top political post of the land in next year’s polls.

Doubtless, there’s a need to assure the people, particularly the electorate, that Charter changes can fast-track the country’s socio-economic development amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
