Kudos to the Manila Police District (MPD), headed by Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr., for having finally ‘neutralized’ a ‘Basag Kotse’ gang member shortly after he broke the window of a parked SUV near the Jose Rizal Stadium in Malate, Manila early yesterday morning.
Danao said the suspect was about 30 to 35 years old, around 5'” tall and was wearing a black t-shirt and purple short pants. He also had the names ‘boy cadua’ and ‘charen duarte’ tattoed on his stomach.
Homicide prober Det. Charles John Duran reported to Danao that the said suspect, who is yet to be identified, was seen lurking in the vicinity of the Jose Rizal Staduim, particularly at the northbound lane, on Adriatico Street at shortly before 2 a.m.
The MPD- Malate Police Station 9 under P/Lt.Col.Richard Ian Ang 9 was conducting Anti - Criminality operations when P/Capt. Gil Lobaton and P/Lt. Rommel Baylon caught the suspect in the act of breaking the window of a black Toyota Fortuner(ZMF-168) and when he was accosted, the suspect suddenly fired a gun, prompting the cops to fire back, hitting him fatally.
Apart from some holdup incidents, there have also been a number of’basag kotse’ incidents in the area extending to the Harrison Plaza parking. In fact, a friend, Councilor Bobby Lim, was once victimized there.
Let us hope that this incident will serve as a warning for the suspect’s cohorts to either mend their ways or ship out.
