THROUGH all the problems confronting the country and the Filipino people, the House of Representatives continues to move forward, passing all the priority legislative measures of President Duterte.
In fact, under the leadership of Speaker Gloria M. Macapagal-Arroyo, the Lower House of Congress has not shown any sign of backing off from its commitment to meet the people’s needs and aspirations.
It will be recalled that President Duterte enumerated his administration’s 15 priority bills during his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) before the joint session of the two-chamber Congress.
Like Speaker Arroyo, more popularly known as GMA, we cannot overemphasize the importance of said priority legislative measures.
Among the measures are the Bangsamoro Basic Law, Rice Tariffication, Trabaho Bill or TRAIN 2, Creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience, Universal Health Care and Revision of the Constitution.
Without doubt, Speaker Arroyo and her colleagues in the House of Representatives are on the right track in helping implement the legislative agenda of the first Chief Executive from Mindanao.
“My concern is not my legacy as Speaker. My concern is to support President Duterte’s legacy in the year that I have as Speaker,” said Arroyo, daughter of the late President Macapagal of Lubao, Pampanga and Dr. Eva Macaraeg of Binalonan, Pangasinan.
A certified economist, the lady Speaker’s leadership/management style and hard work enabled her to shepherd President Duterte’s priority bills, according to her still growing army of supporters.
Our people expect the strict but fair GMA to continue helping the administration in meeting the mushrooming needs of the people until her term as a lawmaker ends at 12 noon on June 30, 2019.
GMA and her colleagues deserve the support of the public as they exert their best efforts to address the many problems confronting the Philippines and the Filipino people.
