THEY really can’t guard every square inch of the city but members of the Quezon City Police District have been showing what real round-the-clock police visibility can do to prevent and suppress crime on the streets, earning them commendation from Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar D. Abayalde and National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar.
Headed by Chief Superintendent Joselito T. Esquivel Jr., the QCPD was congratulated by the PNP leadership for showing to the public that its men are really out there patrolling the streets and could always be called upon for help.
A fine example of the QCPD’s visibility was an incident in Barangay Payatas where two armed men who abducted and tried to rape their victim were killed in a shootout with patrolling officers from the QCPD Station 6 headed by Supt. Joel Villanueva.
Prior to that, two members of the QCPD Station 1 shot and wounded an armed robbery suspect when they cornered him minutes after he stole the mobile phone of Jessa dela Coste while she was waiting for her companion near a drug store at the corner Kamuning Road and EDSA last August 5.
Esquivel commended his men for their dedication to duty leading to the neutralization and arrest of the suspects. “These policemen are only among the many QCPD personnel who are out there in the streets 24/7 doing their duty to keep peace and order. While the rest of Q.C. sleeps, they patrol the streets in order to arrest and thwart criminality,” the member of Philippine Military Academy ‘Maringal’ Class of 1988 said.
