Employee quizzes on coworker’s slay

POLICE are interrogating an employee of a construction company to determine his alleged involvement in the killing of his co-employee as he was the last person seen with the victim while withdrawing a huge amount from a bank until he was robbed and shot by two suspected robbers on Saturday in Quezon City.

The suspect, identified as Leonel Benedicto, 34, assistant time keeper of Devex Incorporation, is currently detained at the Quezon City Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.

Benedicto and two still unidentified men were reportedly considered as suspects in the death of Mark Joseph Samaro, 30, timekeeper of the said company.

A report from the QCPD-CIDU showed that on the afternoon of October 24, 2020, the victim and the suspect went to the BDO bank branch located in UP Town Center and withdrew P200,000 to be used for the salaries of the workers.

A witness said he was walking along Katipunan Avenue near Magsaysay Street, Barangay UP Campus, Quezon City when he noticed Benedicto apparently giving a signal to unidentified occupants of a color white vehicle of unknown plate number parked nearby..

Moments later, the witness heard three gunshots behind him.

When the witness turned around, he saw two men taking the sling bag of the victim who was already slumped on the sidewalk. The suspects hurriedly boarded the same white vehicle and fled towards Katipunan Avenue.

The victim was rushed to Quirino Memorial Medical Center but to no avail.

Benedicto was arrested by personnel of the CIDU-QCPD because he was positively identified by the witness as the same person giving a signal to the suspects.
