Empowering Lives Behind Bars Through Skills Development

On November 14, 2024, a significant milestone in skills development and rehabilitation was celebrated at the Olongapo District Jail Male Dorm through the Distribution of Training Support Fund for Masonry NC II and Tile Setting NC II trainees. This impactful initiative was spearheaded by the TESDA Zambales Provincial Office, in partnership with Agrobuild Institute of Technology, Inc., under the Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA) and Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) scholarship programs.

The program supported 150 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), recognizing their dedication and successful completion of technical-vocational training. The event began with a solemn prayer, followed by opening remarks from Supt. Junteddy G. Madria, Jail Warden of Olongapo District Jail, who applauded the scholars for their perseverance and highlighted the vital role of education in rehabilitation.

Mr. Leonardo R. Tabamo, Acting Provincial Director of TESDA Zambales, delivered an inspiring address, reiterating TESDA’s commitment to making education inclusive and accessible. He emphasized the transformative power of skills training in empowering individuals, particularly PDLs, to reintegrate into society with dignity and purpose.

The event’s highlight was the awarding of training support funds to scholars from four batches, covering Masonry NC II and two batches of Tile Setting NC II. This financial assistance underscores the importance of equipping PDLs with skills that can pave the way for brighter futures upon their reintegration into society.

Insp. John Paul Milleza, Assistant Warden of Olongapo District Jail, concluded the event with heartfelt closing remarks. He expressed gratitude to TESDA, Agrobuild Institute of Technology, Inc., and other partners for their unwavering support. He also called for the extension of similar programs to benefit the remaining 600+ PDLs awaiting training opportunities.

This collaborative effort between TESDA, Agrobuild Institute of Technology, Inc., and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) reflects a shared commitment to uplifting lives through education and rehabilitation. It stands as a testament to the transformative impact of skills development in creating a more inclusive and empowered society.
