RUNWAY enhancement works at Iloilo International Airport began on Monday (August 11, 2025) to ensure safer and more efficient airport operations in the region.
This was announced by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), adding that the efforts are in line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon to modernize and upgrade aviation infrastructure nationwide.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the authority continues to implement projects that improve safety, operational efficiency, and service quality at airports under its jurisdiction.
“The runway safety enhancement project includes runway edge strip and slope correction, as well as embankment works along Sectors 5 and 7. The work is scheduled for completion within 45 working days,” he added.
Apolonio also said that the project covers the removal of accumulated soil deposits, correction of uneven surfaces within the airside, and filling of low-lying areas to improve drainage and prevent water pooling during heavy rainfall. These measures are crucial for maintaining runway friction and preventing hydroplaning incidents.
It was learned that a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued for daily airport closures from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. and this schedule was coordinated with airline operators prior to implementation to ensure no flights will be affected.
CAAP he added, extends its sincere appreciation to the flying public for patience and cooperation during the construction period, as these improvements are vital to delivering a safer and more comfortable air travel experience.
