MARICAR De Mesa is back doing an afternoon soap on GMA-7 in “Dragon Lady”. “I go back and forth sa GMA and ABS-CBN. Free lancer naman ako kaya kung sino ang may offer, doon ako. But dito talaga ako sa GMA nagsimula co-hosting ‘Go Bingo’ and I was with ‘Bubble Gang’ for five years,” she says.

She was once married to cager Don Allado but they separated after six years. She then had an American boyfriend (who she refuses to name) and gave birth to a daughter named Allana Sky a year ago, but they have now also called it quits.

“Siguro dahil long distance love affair siya, he’s based in the States at nandito naman ako. Siguro, we’re not really meant for each other kasi may cultural differences din, e. Medyo magulo. But during the two years that we’re on, pabalik-balik ako roon. E, kaso, nandito ang trabaho ko. I love acting and may mga offers pa naman, so alangan namang iwan ko ang career ko rito. Before ‘Dragon Lady’, GMA also got me to do a role in ‘Kambal Karibal’.”

So is she dating anew? “No, wala. Sa ngayon, I’m a single mother to my baby, but tumutulong naman 'yung father niya. We’re civil with each other. We’re co-parenting. Ayoko kasing magkagalit kami, for the sake of the baby, mas mabuting peaceful kami. He’s doing his share, pero nakakaya ko naman. But siyempre, as of now, priority ko 'yung baby ko at focus muna ako sa trabaho ko.”

In “Dragon Lady”, she plays Vera Lim, the mortal enemy of Diana Zubiri. “First taping day namin ni Diana, sampalan agad, e. Magkaribal kami sa business at sa lalaki, ever since. Makakalaban ko rin dito 'yung anak niya, played by Janine Gutierrez.

Anak ko naman si Joyce Ching so mother and daughter versus mother and daughter ang labanan namin dito. Nakakatuwa, kasi on camera, nag-aaway kaming lahat, but off cam, masaya kami, magkakasundo kami kaya magaan ang trabaho and you look forward sa taping kasi enjoy ka sa co-workers mo. First time ko to work with Diana and Janine pero nag-click kami agad.

Naiiba rin ang ‘Dragon Lady’ kasi it shows the culture of our Chinese brothers and sisters. I have to learn how to speak Chinese for my role. May coach naman kami at hindi naman pala siya mahirap aralin at madali ring i-memorize ang Chinese lines ko.”
