ARCI Muñoz is paired for the first time with JM de Guzman in Star Cinema’s new romcom, “Last Fool Show”, the mainstream debut of indie director Eduardo Roy, Jr. who’s best known for such award-winning indie films as “Quick Change” and “Pamilya Ordinaryo”. So how is it working with JM?
“It’s fun,” she says. “JM and I were classmates in UP when we’re still teenagers in 2005. We’re taking up theatre arts and we worked backstage sa plays staged in UP then. We never thought we’d end up someday in showbiz and now we’re even working together.”
Did JM try to court her then? “No. Most of the guys we were with sa theatre world then were gays at akala namin, bading din si JM. Sabi pa nila, balang araw, maga-out din 'yan. Chubby pa noon si JM, but may girlfriend siya. And he’s very nice then kasi ipinagtatanggol niya ako sa mga nambu-bully sa akin noon. Later on, I saw his movies and teleseryes and I was impressed because he’s such an excellent actor. So I really got excited when I was informed that we’ll be paired together in 'Last Fool Show'.”
Right now, Arci is on with a non-showbiz guy named Anthony Ng, who’s a young businessman. She has had past boyfriends before and “Last Fool Show” is about ex-lovers. “I can relate with the material kasi nga ilang beses na rin akong nasawi sa pag-ibig. There was a point I got insecure and was asking myself kung anong problema sa’kin at bakit nauuwi sa breakup ang relationships ko. Hindi ba ako maganda? 'Yun ang dahilan kaya ako nagparetoke, but hindi nauwi sa maganda. Parang sinampal ako nang matindi ni Lord. Sabi niya siguro, Tama na! Mas importanteng maganda ang kalooban mo! Because of that, I got a lot of bashing, so sana maging lesson 'yun sa iba. Kapag sobrang vain ka, it becomes a sin na.”
In “Last Fool Show”, which opens nationwide on April 10, Arci plays Mayessa, an indie film writer-director who is given by a big movie company the chance to do a film for them, a romantic comedy. But she has no idea how to do one, until her friends urged her to make a movie out of her own love story with her ex-BF, JM de Guzman as Paolo. As she relives her memories with JM, they are both given the chance to prove if love is really lovelier the second time around.
“It’s a feel-good movie,” adds Arci. “Both JM and I gave our best in our respective roles and we’re sure matutuwa ang viewers sa naging takbo ng aming love story.”
