WE’VE been an entertainment writer for 43 years now and Eddie Garcia is one of the actors who has the best PR. In presscons, he’ll even be the one to approach us first and greet us. He started his showbiz career in 1949 in “Siete Infantes de Lara” when he was only 20 years old. He first gained fame as the resident villain of Sampaguita Pictures.
Later on, he would shine as a drama actor in films like “Tubog sa Ginto” where he played a closet queen and in naughty domestic comedies like “May Lamok sa Loob ng Kulambo” and “May Daga sa Labas ng Lungga”. He even did sexy films during the heyday of the bomba era, notably the sex-horror-comedy, “Batuta ni Drakula”. Later on, he’d also shine as a late-blooming action star playing the title roles in such movies as “Boyong Manalac”, “Valentin Galit”, and “Andres Manambit”.
Last Saturday, the well-loved Eddie collapsed while taping for the new GMA-7 show tentatively titled “Rosang Agimat” starring Gabbi Garcia, Thea Tolentino, Kristoffer Martin, Jeric Gonzales and Gil Cuerva. He was rushed unconscious to the hospital but he has since regained consciousness. Although now out of the woods, he still needs our prayers so let’s all say a prayer for his quick and total recovery. Meanwhile, here is the official statement coming from his family:
“Manoy Eddie Garcia was at a taping this Saturday morning when he suffered from a severe heart attack. He is still under critical observation and all his doctors are doing their best to assure that he gets the best care.
Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all those who have expressed concern and extended prayers. Please continue praying for Tito Eddie’s fast recovery.
At 90, he is still doing what he loves most, acting. He is a pillar of the industry and is very passionate about his craft. We would like to request his fans and everyone to pray with us so he could get better the soonest time possible. Thank you”
