JASMINE Curtis Smith appears as one of the leads in “Midnight in a Perfect World”, an entry in the last OCinema Filmfest that will now be shown streaming on Upstream.ph starting today, January 29. It’s supposed to be a horror movie but with political undertones. What prompted Jasmine to accept the project?

“When I read the script, it’s something I haven’t done before,” she says. “Horror movie siya na kakaiba. Weird ang mga eksena. In the story, we’re running most of the time and it’s always a black out. Very scary kasi something is chasing us, we don’t kung ano or sino, at napakadilim. I said gusto ko siyang gawin and I‘d like to try working with the director, Dodo Dayao. Later on, I learned it has references to past happenings in our country, like martial law, and also current ones, like the war on drugs.”

What’s her role in the movie? “I play Mimi. Doon sa four major characters that we play nina Glaiza de Castro, Anthony Falcon and Dino Pastrana, I’m the one who’s very sensible, a level headed person and a very caring friend.”

Is the movie physically and mentally exhausting to do? “It’s more physically tiring than mentally exhausting. Kasi maraming eksena ng habulan and we have to make sure our pacing is correct with the camera movement. Mentally, I think more challenging ito for the viewer kasi they have to figure out what’s happening. The movie is something they really have to experience for themselves. Me, I really love watching horror films. Anything that makes you feel eerie and give you spooky vibes. I don’t know why, but if I just enjoy getting a good scare. So do watch our movie if you want to get scared.”

How is it working with Glaiza de Castro for the first time? “We had fun working together. We shot a horror movie, but while we’re doing it, masaya kami sa shoot kasi everyone has a good sense of humor on the set. Kami ni Glaiza, we got to talk about a lot of things, like what we buy online, kung ano ang mga laman ng carts namin. We jived well and we all became good friends on the set, along with Anthony Falcon and Dino Pastrana. We formed a good bonding as professionals in the industry.”

How would she sell “Midnight in a Perfect World” to online viewers? “Let us guide you in this journey to a world of random blackouts, curfews, running from the you-know-who’s and figuring out what kind of trip this is all about. We assure you, you’d enjoy the ride!”

Confirmed: Alden to do a movie with Bea

ALDEN Richards is so happy that one of his shows stalled by the virus, “Centerstage”, is now coming back on the air on February 7, Sunday. “Centerstage” is a singing competition for children hosted by Alden with Betong Sumaya and it now features a high tech virtual set where the kiddie contestants do not have to go to the studio anymore and expose themselves to the dreaded corona virus.

“Their performances will be shot right inside the comfort of their own homes,” says Alden “There will also be no live audience to make sure no one gets infected by the virus. When the show’s telecast was suddenly stopped by the virus last year, andaming netizens ang nagtatanong kung kailan ibabalik ang show kasi nabitin daw sila. Ang gagaling kasi ng kid contestants namin sa show. Now, itutuloy na ang ‘Centerstage’ kaya hindi na sila mabibitin.”

So he will now be seen twice on Sundays. At lunch time, he and all the talented Kapuso performers will entertain the viewers on lunch time in “All Out Sundays”, and in the evening, he will be seen hosting “Centerstage”.

Alden is so happy as “All Out Sundays” continues to be the number one lunchtime show on weekends. Last Sunday, they were threatened by the “sanib-pwera” move of ASAP, with ABS-CBN and TV5 joining forces against them, but the ratings showed that “All Out Sundays” continued to emerge as the one triumphant and victorious in the surveys.

This Sunday, watch out for another “pasabog OPM performances” in “All Out Sundays” led by Alden, along with Julie Anne San Jose, Christian Bautista, Mark Bautista, Paolo Contis, Ken Chan, Rita Daniela, Gabbi Garcia and Rayver Cruz. Don’t miss it as they’re airing live for their special anniversary show.

For the big screen, it’s been confirmed that Alden is set to do a full length film with Bea Alonzo after they were paired in a TV commercial. The project is set to be an adaptation of the hit Korean romance, “A Moment to Remember”, which is in turn based on a classic Japanese movie, “Pure Soul”.

The Japanese original film was made 20 years ago and it’s about a young woman afflicted with early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. The project is spearheaded by Viva Films, now that Bea is no longer with Star Magic but independently managed by Shirley Kwan. In all probability, they’ll start it shooting after the pandemic.
