JENNYLYN Mercado is one of our more outspoken stars and when bashers told her to shut up and stop sympathizing with ABS-CBN and also stop being a “sawsawera” and “pakialamera”, she answered them back: “One quick reminder to the people na nagrereply ng ssshhh , shut up o tumahimik ka na lang, at huwag ka mangialam... Respecting other people’s opinion is a value you seem to have forgotten… the moment you hinder someone from speaking their mind is the moment you failed to respect the rights of your fellow Filipino.”
Jen is specially worried about the 11,000 employees who lost their jobs and what will happen with their respective families: “When the Philippines unemployment rate just recorded an all time high, that’s when the congress decided to terminate a renewal which will cost additional thousands of people to lose their jobs. Nasaan ‘yung logic dun?”
She adds that shutting down ABS-CBN has a domino effect that also affects other people who earn from servicing the network like “caterers sa set, drivers, equipment rental houses at mga empleyado nila, mga cameraman at tech team, talent managers, mga assistant ng mga artista, talent suppliers, mga talents o bit players, freelance production designers, freelance writers, atbp. They also all lost their means of income.”
A netizen told her: “It’s better for you to be neutral para iwas bashing. At the end of the day, u are not a kapamilya star.”
Jen’s reply: “But I am a Filipino and that alone is enough. To be neutral or silent in times of injustice is also injustice. If being “bashed” is a small price to pay for practicing my right to freedom of speech, then I am fine with it.”
Jennylyn likewise lashed at Sen. Koko Pimentel, Metro Manila police chief Debold Sinas and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) undersecretary Mocha Uson who were seen in social media violating quarantine protocols but got away with it so easily simply because they’re Dutertards.
She wrote: “Kumusta na pala kayong lahat? At higit sa lahat, kumusta na kaya yung nag-Mananita (referring to Sinas who celebrated his birthday saying it’s just mananita), yung Senador na kailangan ng compassion, at ang blogger na nag-mass gathering?”
Personally, we admire Jen for her guts. Not even her BF Dennis Trillo is as outspoken and courageous as her.
