Martin Del Rosario

MARTIN Del Rosario was congratulated by all his co-stars in GMA-7’s primetime drama, “The Gift”, for winning the best leading male performance award in the recent 24th Asian TV Awards. He won this for his effective portrayal of a drag queen in the TV series “Born Beautiful” shown on Cignal TV. It’s a vindication for Martin as he was not even nominated in local award giving bodies but he won in an international acting derby intended for all of Asia.

“It’s truly an honor to receive this prestigious award from the Asian TV Awards,” he says. “I want to thank the people behind Asian TV Awards for this recognition, also Cignal Entertainment for producing the series and our directors, Perci Intalan and Jun Lana. Buti pala nagpunta ako sa awards night and I was able to receive the trophy personally. I didn’t really expect to win kasi it’s an international award at brilliant actors ang co-nominees ko. First time ko rin to be nominated here and I said, okay na sa’kin yung nomination. Kaya ang sarap ng feeling. I’ve won awards before, but iba ito kasi andaming magagaling na other Asian actors who were nominated. but ako ang napili nila. To think na second choice lang ako sa role na ito.”

Martin got the role after Christian Bables refused to do the same role of Barbs that he previously did in the movie, “Die Beautiful”. Well, as they say, Christian’s loss is Martin’s gain. Isn’t he afraid that he might be typecast in gay roles?

“No, kasi right now, andaming viewers naman ang nagagalit sa akin for my performance as the villain to Alden Richards in ‘The Gift’, so okay lang. They know I’m just playing a role. After ‘The Gift’, I was told we will do the sequel of our recent hit movie, ‘The Panti Sisters’, where I will reprise my role as a transwoman.”

Martin has just returned from Kalibo, Aklan where he and his co-stars in “The Gift” led by Alden Richards, Mikoy Morales and Mikee Quintos, joined the annual Ati-Atihan Festival for the Sto. Nino held at Pastrana Park. They later mingled with their fans in the Kapuso Meet and Greet affair held at Magsaysay Park.
Their fans are requesting GMA-7 to extend the airing of “The Gift”, as it is now on its last few weeks, to be replaced by “Descendants of the Sun”. But we heard the GMA management can no longer grant their request as Alden will soon start a new show. He will be the host of “Centerstage”, a singing competition for children which he is excited to IEdo as he really wants to support young and talented kids. The judges in the show are Concert Queen Pops Fernandez, West End singer-actress Aicelle Santos and acclaimed musical director Mel Villena.
