REGAL Films used to be the top discoverer of new stars with their Regal Babies, but when the local film industry slackened, they stopped building up their own stars and became contented just borrowing stars from the two top networks. This is not good since introducing new stars that the viewers will idolize is the true lifeblood of showbusiness.

In fairness to Viva, they have this foresight so they put up their own Viva Artist Agency and they have their own stable of stars so there’s no need for them to frequently borrow from the networks. But now, Regal’s Roselle Monteverde, who now calls the shots, seems to have realized the need for this and she’s now developing her own stable of Regal Babies.

The first one she signed up is Sarah Edwards, who’s officially being introduced in Regal’s upcoming release on February 26, “Us Again”. At the presscon, Sarah impressed a lot of writers present as she’s very articulate, particularly in English. So how was she discovered?

“I started with TV commercials and Ms. Roselle saw one of my commercials at pinatawag po ako sa ad agency,” she says. “Two years ago pa po ako pinapatawag ng Regal, but then, I got the chance to work abroad so I tried it muna.”

Sarah is articulate as she got to work in Korea as interviewer for Dispatch, interviewing celebrities, including K-Pop artists like Momoland. But after a while, she missed home and returned to Manila.

“I’ve really been planning to try acting naman, so I’m glad that Ms. Roselle is giving me a break and gave me my first movie,” she says.

What’s her role in “Us Again”? “I play the girlfriend of RK Bagatsing, then he meets again Jane Oineza with whom he had an affair five years ago. With them reunited, they examined their feelings for each other at ako 'yung lumabas na parang naging third wheel sa relationship nila. I took acting workshops before I faced the camera and our director, Joy Aquino, helped me a lot in doing my scenes kasi alam niyang first time ko to try acting in a full length movie.”

Roselle says she’s planning to launch Sarah later in her own movie. If ever, who would she like to be her leading man? “Siguro si Alden Richards, kasi I met him in an MPL event and he’s really good looking in person at mabait pa.”

She was initially shy to talk to Alden. “Na-starstruck nga ako, but it turned out he’s very approachable. When I asked him para magpa-picture, pumayag agad siya. May common interest din kami, kasi I learned mahilig siyang maglaro ng Mobile Legends, just like me.”

What if Regal would offer to launch her in a sexy flick like what they did to their nymphets before who wore the so called “Magic Kamison” that wields magic at the box office? Is she willing to go daring?

“I think we will get there someday,” she says. “But right now, I think I need more experience, more practice. Parang nakakabigla naman yata kung biglang daring agad ang roles ko. But I can imagine myself doing that, but later on. Basta as of now, I’m just happy na naging masaya po ang first experience ko making a movie with Regal. I can’t wait to show ‘Us Again’ to my family and my friends as I’m really proud of it.”
