MEGAN Young is the first Filipina to win the Miss World title in 2013 and since then, she’s been hosting the pageant’s coronation night every year. But this year, she’s not even sure yet if there would be a pageant at all because of the worldwide corona health crisis. Even the local version that will choose our representative to be sent there has yet to be chosen.
“I really don’t know kung matutuloy siya,” says Megan. “I haven’t been informed yet.”
Meantime, while her home studio, GMA-7, has not yet resumed regular tapings, she doesn’t know yet when they’ll start taping for “Legal Wives”, her supposed new show with Dennis Trillo that has been stalled by the pandemic. As of now, she’s busy with her hubby Mikael Daez doing their own Youtube broadcast called “Megan and Mikael Podcast”.
Recently they talked about “#BehindRelationshipGoals” and focused on online gaming to know if it’s all right for anyone to spend money on them. They warned gaming enthusiasts to be more cautious when they play as they themselves learned a lesson the hard way. Mikael got so fond of playing online games he didn’t notice that their credit card bill is skyrocketing.
"It was a moment of me being irresponsible and not disciplined at all,” he says. “When I told her about it, my wife put me in my place. She told me, 'You can't do this. You have to fix it.’ It was nice hearing that, but I could only hear that if I was honest with her. So important 'yung to have a good communication with each other all the time.”
Doing the podcasts together definitely helped them to cultivate a more harmonious relationship, specially during the lockdown. “We enjoy doing it and, in the process, we learned that we get to help other young couples in their own relationships as husband and wife,” adds Mikael. “Ang masaya sa podcast, may topics na we ourselves, hindi rin namin napag-uusapan pa as a couple, kasi it just doesn’t come up. So when we do the podcast, may mga lumilitaw na kuwento na first time lang din naming naririnig sa isa’t isa. So nagiging bagong conversation piece din para sa amin ni Megan. Kaya natutuwa lang din akong we’ve been together for 10 years at may kuwento pa rin palang pareho naming hindi pa naririnig tungkol sa isa’t isa. I think that was the surprise blessing of doing our podcast.”
SInce he himself photographs themselves for the podcast, he’s now learning more technical skills, specially about the right camera placements and editing their footage. “Learning experience din ito for me and I’m glad I got to work with GMA kasi marami akong natutuhan sa kanila. I’ve done so many shows with them at ang feeling ko lagi relatives ko mga kasama ko at para kaming one family. Being a Kapuso is being able to work with people who I care about and who matter, and who also treat me like family.”
Mikael is part of the hit primetime soap "Love of My Life" that has been disrupted by the lockdown. They don't know yet as to when they'll start taping new episodes.
