More rich taxmen’s kidnapers hunted

August 16, 2019

PHILIPPINE National Police agents are tracking down more members of a kidnapping gang which has specialized in abducting wealthy Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) officials, mostly Revenue District Officers or RDOs and stealing their millions knowing the victims won’t go to the authorities for fear their wealth would be put under close scrutiny, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

The follow-up operations went underway after PNP operatives on Thursday simultaneously raided five safehouses in Caloocan City and Bulacan of the syndicate killing one of the suspects and arresting at least four others and confiscating a cache of high-powered weapons and explosives.

Highly-reliable Journal Group sources said that at least 10 members of the syndicate have been identified by the NCRPO and the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group. A member of the gang identified as Police Officer 1 Wilbert Peralta was killed in 2013.

The kidnappers were believed to have stolen P30-50 million from a retired RDO whom they seized in Timog Avenue, Quezon City in August 2017.
