ANDREA Torres doesn’t seem to hide anymore that she and “The Better Woman” leading man Derek Ramsay are now more than just friends. She shows her full support to him by watching him play basketball at the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. Derek has also introduced her to his parents.
Andrea has always been vocal about how easy it is to get along with Derek. “Madali talaga siyang pakisamahan,” she says. “Kahit na big star siya, very approachable kahit noong nag-uumpisa pa lang kami sa show at kahit sino pang kausap niya. Mabilis akong nag-open up sa kanya even if first time naming nagkatrabaho sa ‘The Better Woman’ kasi friendly siya from the start. Walang ere at all kaya hindi ka maiilang.”
Is it true that they now work out in the same gym?
“Pareho kaming gym buff but hindi ako puwedeng sumabay ng workout sa kanya. Iba kasi 'yung program niya. Ang bibigat ng mga binubuhat niyang weights. Hindi ko kaya.”
The latest complication in “The Better Woman” is that both the characters she plays, Juliet and Jasmine, are now pregnant, with the same father, Derek himself as the hunky Andrew. Juliet is the first one who got preggers. She pretended to be Jasmine and Derek, thinking it’s his wife, made wild love to her only to find out later that the better woman who pleasured him in bed is not really Jasmine but Juliet.
When Juliet got pregnant, they kept it a secret to Jasmine as it would surely hurt his wife’s feelings. So they connive with the twins’ mother, Jaclyn Jose, who helps keep the truth away from Jasmine. Derek buys a condo unit in Manila where Juliet can stay away from Jasmine, but when the recalcitrant Juliet finds out about this, she gets mad. And to complicate matters further, Jasmine herself has become pregnant also, much to the consternation of Derek and Jaclyn.
Andrea is very grateful that it’s Jaclyn who is playing her mother in “The Better Woman”. “Parang second mother ang tingin ko sa kanya,” she says. “Natuwa talaga ako when I learned she’ll be playing my mother in the show kasi I’ve worked with her before in ‘Alyas Robin Hood’ and I’m really amazed sa kahusayan niya bilang aktres. And she’s a very generous co-worker kaya I really ask for her feedback. Bilang our only best actress sa Cannes Filmfest, alam niya 'yung iba-ibang paraan ng pag-atake sa isang eksena, so she’s really very helpful to me in my interpreting my twin roles of Jasmine and Juliet in ‘The Better Woman’.”
