REGINE Velasquez admits she has been a victim of racial discrimination abroad, like when she visited a Louis Vuitton store in New York. Regine says: “Sa pintuan pa lang, hindi na ako pinapasok. Sabi ng store representative, ‘No, I don’t think we have your size’. At nakaharang talaga siya roon. Sa akin, okay, if you don’t want to entertain me, I’ll find somebody else at papakita ko talaga sa kanya, bibilhan ko ‘yung taong ‘yon.”
The famous brand name obviously learned about what happened to her and later on sent an apology to her through flowers. Regine says it’s not the worst thing that happened to her. She was even once told that she cannot afford the prices in a certain store so she took her wad of dollars from her bag to humiliate the store representative who’s mean to her.
"Hindi talaga maganda ‘yung idi-discriminate ka on the basis of your race,” she says at the presscon of “Iconic”, her concert with Sharon Cuneta at the Araneta Coliseum that will happen this Friday and Saturday night. Sharon agrees and she says she has also been a victim of racial discrimination in a famous jewelry store, so she ended up buying a lot of things to show she can afford their expensive price tags.
Both Regine and Sharon admit they’re nervous and excited with their two-night concert that starts tonight. “This is something we've looked forward to and now, it’s finally happening,” says the Megastar. “We prepared hard for it and we’re leaving no stone unturned to make sure the viewers will be pleased with every number that we’ll do. It’s going to very memorable for them.”
“It’s certainly going to be unforgettable for me kasi, finally, I get to perform on the same concert stage with my idol even before I joined showbiz,” says Regine. “Marami kaming inihandang surprises for the audience na tiyak naming magugustuhan nilang lahat.”
After this, Sharon will be doing movie projects for Viva and Star Cinema. Regine has an indie film with Cinema One and she has offers to do guestings in ABS-CBN shows.
“May offer ako to appear in an episode of ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ pero hindi ko maisingit, e,” she says. “Gusto ko rin sanang mag-guest sa ‘Probinsyano’ kaya lang ang dami kong raket and up to next year, naka-line na ang schedule ng concerts and tours namin.”
