THURSDAY is a sad day for local show business as the iconic actor-director Eddie Garcia finally left us. Manoy Eddie is a FAMAS Hall of Famer as best supporting actor (for such films as ‘Taga sa Bato', ‘Condenado', ‘Tanikalang Apoy', ‘Ito ang Pilipino', ‘Dugo ng Bayan', ‘Nueva Vizcaya') best actor (for ‘De Colores', ‘Tubog sa Ginto', ‘Minsan Pa Nating Hagkan ang Nakaraan', ‘Bakit May Kahapon Pa', ‘Bahid') and best director (for ‘Pinagbuklod ng Langit, the Marcos biopic', ‘Sinasamba Kita', ‘Magdusa Ka', ‘Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig', ‘Imortal').
But the best movie of Manoy Eddie as actor for us is MINSAN PA NATING HAGKAN ANG NAKARAAN, as the husband of Vilma Santos who she cheated for Christopher de Leon. As a director, his best movies for us are HISTORIA DE UN AMOR and MGA ANAK SA PAGKAKASALA, both for Sampaguita Pictures.
'Historia de un Amor' is a touching love story starring Barbara Perez and Josephine Estrada as two sisters in love with one man, Juancho Gutierrez, with beautiful narration by Rosa Mia as the mother of Barbara and Josephine.
'Mga Anak sa Pagkakasala' is about the sad fate of children born out of wedlock, starring Gloria Romero, Eddie Gutierrez and Bianca Gomez. Later, Manoy also did the memorable ATSAY with Nora Aunor in the title role and the equally poignant SAAN NAGTATAGO ANG PAG-IBIG with Ate Vi.
He will surely be missed, but he passed with his boots on, still doing something he loved until the end. Let's all pray for the repose of his soul and our condolences to the loved ones he left behind.
