SANYA Lopez is back on GMA-7’s Afternoon Prime in “Dahil sa Pag-ibig”, directed by Ricky Davao. It’ll be recalled that Sanya first gained attention for her supporting role in the afternoon hit “The Half Sisters”, then she played one of the leads in the remake of “Encantadia” that further boosted her stock, so she was given a solo lead role in “Haplos” on Afternoon Prime, which rated well.

After that, she was cast in “Cain at Abel” on primetime and now, she’s back in the afternoon slot as the lead actress in “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” where she will share topbilling with Benjamin Alves, Winwyn Marquez and Pancho Magno, supported by Devon Seron as her best friend, Sandy Andolong as her kind mom and Tetchie Agbayani as her abusive mother-in-law. This will start airing tomorrow, Monday to replace “Inagaw na Bituin” that ends this Friday.

“Dahil sa Pag-ibig” is a drama about the intricate lives of our OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) and the struggles they have to face while working away from their loved ones. It will also show the trials and sacrifices faced by the families they’ve left behind.

Benjamin will play the role of Eldon, who will find himself in deep trouble while working in the Middle East. Sanya will play his wife, Mariel, who will be forced to do an act of supreme sacrifice just to help him escape his terrible fate. Both of them play as truly emotionally demanding roles. “Sobrang madrama 'yung role ko and very demanding kasi lagi akong umiiyak,” she says. “Si Benjamin dito works in Saudi and he gets raped by a Saudi man and later he kills 'yung Arabong husband ni Winwyn who seduced him. Dahil dito, pupugutan siya ng ulo and he’ll be pardoned only if he’d pay P50 million in blood money. Dito pumasok si Pancho as my former boyfriend na naging isang very rich artist whose paintings are worth millions. He’d offer to help my husband, but kapalit ang katawan ko. So the show will answer the question: hanggang saan ang kaya mong gawin para mailigtas ang mahal mo sa buhay? Maraming OFWs ang makaka-relate dito, and also 'yung mga loved ones nilang nagsasakripisyo rin para sa kanila.”

Director Ricky Davao says this is her most daring show to date. “Yes, kasi they asked me to do some love scenes and show some skin at napapayag nila ako kasi kailangan talaga sa story. Pero maayos naman ang treatment ni Direk Ricky at hindi basta malaswa, so okay lang sa akin.”
