SHARON Cuneta returned after a long absence to the big screen in November last year in Star Cinema’s feel-good romcom, “Unexpectedly Yours”, which paired her anew with Robin Padilla. It was a hit and she even got a best actress nomination. Now, exactly a year later, she’s back again with a new movie, “Three Words to Forever”, which happily reunites her with another ex-flame, Richard Gomez.
This engaging family drama is partly filmed in Ormoc City, where Richard is the current mayor. The whole cast flew there to shoot many important scenes on location. The movie is once again directed by blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Molina who also helmed Sharon in “Unexpectedly Yours”.
“Three Words to Forever” is the sixth movie together of Sharon and Richard as a love team, after “Kahit Wala Ka Na” (1989), “Ngayon at Kailanman” (1992), “Kapantay ay Langit” (1994), “Minsan Minahal Kita” (2000) and “Walang Kapalit” (2003). Their last film was made 15 years ago. So how is it to be reunited in “Three Words to Forever”?
“It’s always a pleasure working with Richard,” says Sharon. “I was very excited to work with him again after so long. We’re both glad to be working together once more and we want to thank Star Cinema for giving our love team the chance to be seen again on the big screen. We’ve watched the scenes we did and everyone says the chemistry between us is still there. Noong una, siyempre, I felt a bit nervous kasi it’s been so long since we last worked together. So many things have happened in our lives since then. Naging mayor na siya. We’ve both become more mature. One thing with Richard is never kaming nagkainisan even before and we’ve maintained naman our friendship through the years.”
The movie is about a family that appears to be an ideal one on the surface. Unknown to the people around them, there are cracks in the relationship of the family members, with feelings hidden secretly from one another. It’s about three generations. The grandparents are Liza Lorena and Freddie Webb, followed by Sharon and Richard, whose daughter is Kathryn Bernardo, who’s in a movie for the first time without her own ka-love team, Daniel Padilla. This time, she’s paired with newcomer Tommy Esguerra.
The family has a reunion for the 25th wedding anniversary of Sharon and Richard. “Doon lalabas 'yung katotohanang lahat kami, may kanya-kanyang challenges na kinakaharap, may kanya-kanyang problemang sino-solve. It will be revealed na kami ni Richard, we no longer sleep on the same bed. Our parents naman have their own problem kasi one of them is very controlling.”
How is it working with Kathryn Bernardo after she worked with Julia Barretto in “Unexpectedly Yours”? “I’m personally excited to work with today’s younger actors because we can also learn from their generation. Kathryn is a big star in her own right and people in ABS-CBN all say mahal na mahal nila si Kathryn, along with Daniel, kasi napakababait na mga bata. And it’s true. It’s so easy to love this girl kasi she’s so refreshing, so real. What you see is what you get. She’s so sweet and her parents, also Daniel, are so blessed to have her. I really want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to work with her. Next time, sana naman, parehong KatNiel na ang makatrabaho ko.”
“Three Words to Forever” opens in theatres on November 28.
