SHARON Cuneta and Regine Velasquez will be having a concert together for the first time, titled “Iconic”. This will be held at the Big Dome on October 18 & 19. Their presscon at Luxent Hotel was so much fun as they recalled how their friendship with each other started.
“Sobrang fan ako ni Ate Sharon bago pa man ako napasok sa showbiz,” says Regine. “Pumila pa ako noon sa Meycauayan for her movie ‘Bukas Luluhod ang mga Tala’ in 1984. So nang makapasok na ko sa showbiz, I was so starstruck with her. Kinakausap niya ako, hindi ako nagsasalita. Hiyang-hiya ako.”
“Akala ko naman, mataray siya,” says Sharon. “Magkasama kami sa dressing room, kinakausap ko, hindi man lang kumikibo. I told myself, ang suplada naman nito.”
Then they eventually got to know each other better and are now the best of friends. “I’m very happy to finally get to do a concert with Regine,” says Mega. “Masaya ito. I really adore her, so dream come true ito for me. Vow na vow ako sa kanya as a singer. She’s very generous kasi hindi siya nangangain o nananapaw ng kasama niya. I’m an alto, unlike her na kaya lahat ng notes and range. She has a good heart and even teaches me how to reach high notes. I have only good things to say about her. Her husband is also a very good friend of mine, so this concert is really a blessing for me.”
“Actually, mas dream come true ito for me,” says Regine. “The idea started years ago. Kapag nagkikita kami, she will tell me, halika, mag-concert naman tayo, and I’d say, gusto ko talaga ]yan. Kaso nga, hindi natutuloy kasi we’re from different networks then. E, ngayon, puwede na. I really look forward to our rehearsals kasi that’s where we make chika and I get the chance to be with her on a more personal level. Biro mo, kasama ko 'yung idol ko, e Sharonian talaga ako ever since.”
So what will they do in “Iconic”? “We have a total of 19 production numbers with so many songs in them, kasi marami roon, medleys,” says Mega. “And for the first time, magsamama ang McDonald’s at Jollibee na pareho naming sponsors. I’ll appear as Mrs. Ronald McDonald at lalabas naman siya as bubuyog.”
“Siyempre, ngayon lang kami nagkasama so ka-careerin namin ito,” adds Songbird. “We’ll have many duets. Palitan kami ng kanta. I’ll sing her hit song and she’ll sing mine.”
Sharon reveals that platinum tickets to their concert are all sold out. “Yes, lahat ng expensive tickets, nabili na po. Ang natitira na lang, 'yung nasa upper boxes and bleachers kaya bago pa po maubos ang lahat, bumili na po kayo ng tickets,” she adds.
This is really one big musical event that might not happen again in a long, long time, so get your tickets now from the Araneta Coliseum box office or at Ticketnet.
