Sharon surprises Direk Erik: a big fan

Sharon Cuneta

DIRECTOR Erik Matti is proud of his movie “Kuwaresma” that opens in theaters tomorrow, May 15. “First time ko to do a movie with the Megastar and she’s very cooperative,” he says. “We’ve worked before in a TV commercial, pero iba 'yung pelikula, e, lalo na nga itong ‘Kuwaresma’ kasi it’s her first horror movie.”

He didn’t think that Sharon will readily accept “Kuwaresma”. “At first, I thought, baka hindi niya tanggapin ang project kasi it’s different from anything she has done before. But it turned out right timing ang dating ng offer namin kasi matagal na pala niya gustong gumawa ng horror movie. I was very careful at first when I asked her if okay lang ba sa kanyang gumawa ng horror. And she said, 'alam mo, direk, ang daming times ko nang gustong gumawa ng horror, pero wala namang nago-offer sa akin'.”

And it turned out Sharon is a big fan of horror films. “She’s amazing. Magkuwento ka ng horror movie, familiar agad siya sa kuwento. Kabisado niya pati 'yung mga horror films na gawa ng Thailand. Kaya excited akong mapanood pati ng Sharonians itong ‘Kuwaresma’ kasi something new ang ginawa rito ni Mega. It also helped na nag-click agad sila ni John Arcilla as her husband and they were both helpful in guiding the new stars working with them in the movie as their children, Kent and Pam Gonzales.”

He’s one of the advocates of the move to transfer the playdate of new movies to Friday instead of the current Wednesday opening. “Yes, I really want to try 'yung Friday playdate kasi aabot ka ng weekend at mas may chance na mapanood ka ng tao. Kasi sa Wednesday, may trabaho pa ang mga tao, o pasok sa school. E, kung Friday, weekend na, lalo sa Saturday and Sunday, people go out to look for entertainment, mas may chance na mapanood nila yung movie mo. And if you’re movie is truly worth seeing, may chance talagang ma-extend due to good word of mouth endorsement of satisfied viewers.”
