IT’s said that absence makes the heart grow fonder but in showbiz, the more believable rule is: out of sight, out of mind. If you’ve had no movie or TV project for quite a long time, there’s a danger that the public might just forget you and not get to miss you at all. It’s good if you did it by choice, like Chin Chin Gutierrez who deliberately chose to leave showbiz and enter the convent and be a nun. Or Heart Evangelista, who is missing on the local front but is in the cast of a big Hollywood movie.
There have been a lot of stars who’ve been missing in action lately. Some are absent because they became mothers, like Ellen Adarna who’s mom to her and John Lloyd Cruz’ baby boy, and Marian Rivera who just gave birth to her second child with Dingdong Dantes.
Some stars who don’t have any TV or movie projects make themselves visible through the internet, just like KC Concepcion who just shares her photos on social media. Then there’s Alex Gonzaga, who is now a successful vlogger and a big hit on Youtube where she’s earning millions. Some actors really have exposure these days only in their social media accounts where they keep on posting photos of themselves in various states of deshabille. (JLC, obviously.--Ed.)
One of those now missed by her fans is Erich Gonzales. On the small screen, she was last seen in “Blood Sisters” and on the big screen, in the action flick “We Will Not Die Tonight” which didn’t do well at the box office. Both were shown last year yet. It’s now the middle of 2019 and we haven’t heard from her at all this year.
Then there’s Lovi Poe. Her last soap was “The One that Got Away” and her last movie was “The Significant Other”, both shown last year yet. She is said to be currently hibernating in the States, but she has finished one new movie before she left, “Latay”, about a battered husband.
Other actresses who are MIA (missing in action) are Angelica Panganiban (who says she recharged by traveling all over Asia and the USA), Carla Abellana (last seen in “Pamilya Roces”), Pokwang (who has not been in a regular soap for ages now), Bea Binene (last seen in last year’s “Kapag Nahati ang Puso”), Rhian Ramos (last seen in “The One That Got Away”), Gabbi Garcia (last seen in “Pamilya Roces”), Megan Young (for the country’s first Miss World, she deserves a more flourishing career) and Julie Anne San Jose (last seen in the short- lived “Guitar Princess” last year).
