Therese from being hated to being sympathetic

THERESE Malvar is aware that many viewers of the hit afternoon soap, “Inagaw na Bituin”, hate her guts as she’s very effective in portraying the role of the contravida, Ariela, who makes life hell for Kyline Alcantara as Elsa and her sister, Melody, played by Melbelline Caluag. “Talagang galit na galit ako nang ang auntie kong si Sunshine Dizon, sila ang pinaboran sa singing contest na kasali kami,” says Therese. “Nagwala talaga ako kasi ako ang kamag-anak niya, but si Kyline ang pinili niya over me. Then niyakap pa niya ito saying the song Kyline reminds her of her missing daughter. Hindi niya alam, si Kyline talaga ang nawawala niyang anak.”

But in this Saturday’s episode of “Magpakailanman”, viewers will surely sympathize with Therese in her role as Erika, a poor girl who dreams of finishing her studies to have a stable job but tragedy strikes when four drug addicts gang-raped her. Because of this, she was bullied in school for being a rape victim. This takes a toll on her and a classmate becomes a bad influence who introduces her to the world of drugs to help her forget her misfortune and problems.

Her parents find out about her addiction and brings her to a rehab center where they meet Jason (Andrew Schimmer), who claims that he belongs to an NGO (non-goverment organization) that helps drug addicts. They entrust Erika to him without knowing he’s really the leader of a drug syndicate and his plan is to make Erika a drug pusher.

Entitled “Anak, Bakit Ka Nagkaganyan?”, this episode is directed by Adolf Alix Jr. and written by Karen Lustica. Therese says she had a hard time portraying her role. “Ang dami niyang pinagdaanan, nagahasa, naghiwalay ang parents, naging addict, ginawang pusher. But I’m glad akong nakuha to play Erika kasi her story will impart a lot of good lessons especially to dysfunctional families where the parents neglect their children.”

Playing the parents of Therese are Lotlot de Leon and Gerald Madrid. Don’t miss this tearjerking drama in “Magpakailanman” this Saturday night.
