JM de Guzman is back on primetime in “Pamilya Ko”, that is now showing before TV Patrol, after his comeback soap last year, “Araw Gabi”. He plays a lead role in “Pamilya Ko” as the eldest son of Joey Marquez and Sylvia Sanchez. At the show’s presscon, JM expressed his gratitude to ABS-CBN for giving him another chance to return to something he loves, which is acting.
“I’m really grateful that they gave me another opportunity to be part of the industry,” he says. “I play a very good role in ‘Pamilya Ko’ as Chico, the eldest of eight kids, but I am so unhappy because my mother is distant to me.”
And why is this so? “May nangyari kasi sa karakter ko noong bata pa sa isa naming kapatid, for which she blames me, kaya pinalaki ako ng lola’t lolo ko, sina Perla Bautista and Noel Trinidad. Kahit anong gawin ko para mapalapit uli sa kanya, my mother resists me kaya naiinggit ako sa younger brothers and sisters ko na nakikita kong mas mahal niya.”
He was linked to Barbie Imperial in his previous soap. Now, he’s being linked to Ria Atayde, who happens to be the daughter of Sylvia Sanchez in real life. “Good friends lang kami ni Ria,” he says. “At this point, I’m not really ready to get into another relationship. Ngayon pa lang uli ako nakakabangon after what happened to me so sa work na lang ako naka-focus muna. Baka magtampo si Lord kasi binigyan niya ako ng another opportunity tapos sasayangin ko lang by being in love again. So, sa trabaho muna po ang concentration ko.”
JM celebrated his 31st birthday last Monday, September 9, but it’s a regular working day for him as he was taping for “Pamilya Ko” on their set in Marikina. His co-stars feted him to a small party during the taping, with Sylvia Sanchez, who plays his mom in the show, preparing lots of dishes for him and everyone else on the set. Some of his fans also appeared on the set with food and presents for him.
“I’m really very thankful sa lahat ng mga nakaalala. These past few days, I’m really loaded with work promoting ‘Pamilya Ko’, doing a show in Baguio then taping regularly, but lahat ng pagod at puyat ko, nawawala dahil sa pagmamahal nyong lahat sa akin,” he tells everyone.
Those who have seen the first few episodes of “Pamilya Ko” all agree that his role as Chico is his best performance. They were touched by his portrayal of Sylvia’s eldest son who is doing everthing to capture his mother’s attention but she remains cold and distant to him.
