NUNG nakaraang Biyernes, July 30 ay nag-celebrate ang longest-running noontime show in the Philippines (and maybe in the world) ng kanilang ika-40 anniversary. The program started airing on July 30, 1979 sa RPN 9 kung saan ito namalagi sa loob ng 16 taon. Anim na taon naman ang inilagi nito sa bakuran ng ABS-CBN pero ang pinakamatagal nitong tahanan ay ang GMA with 24 years and counting.
KUNG nung isang taon ay nakagawa si Anne Curtis ng tatlong pelikula, ang “Buy Bust,” “Sid & Aya (Not A Love Story)” at ang 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival movie na “Aurora,” sa taong ito ng 2019 ay dalawa lamang ang kanyang magagawa, ang soon-to-be released romantic-drama movie na “Just A Stranger” na muli nilang pinagtatambalan ni Marco Gumabao (na nakasama rin niya sa “Aurora”) mula sa panulat at direksiyon ni Jason Paul Laxamana under Viva Films na nakatakdang ipalabas sa August 21 at ang pang 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival movie nila ni Vice Ganda with Tony Labrusca, ang “Momalland” na pamamahalaan ni Barry Gonzalez at joint venture ng Star Cinema and Viva Films.
ANNE Curtis did three films last year: “Sid and Aya”, “Buy Bust” and the Metro Manila filmfest entry, “Aurora”. She got nominations as best actress for all of them in different award giving bodies. It’s already the second half of the year now but her first movie for 2019 is just about to be shown, “Just a Stranger”, from writer-director Jason Paul Laxamana, and opens in theaters nationwide on August 21. How come she started late this year?
“She said, puwede naman nating dayain, but I said, no, kasi for the past few months, nag-build up na ang galit ni Mariel kaya dapat, ilabas mo nang lahat dito,” he says. “And she did, sumambulat talaga nang husto. Sumobra nga kasi the staff counted how many times she slapped and hit me at more than twenty times daw. Sanya is into boxing as her exercise, kaya mapuwersa talaga siya. So namula talaga ang mukha ko. But okay lang, that scene was really a standout and that episode rated so high, so it paid off, 'yung pagsampal sa’kin nang totohanan.”
MYLENE Dizon and Kit Thompson star in a May-December love affair in the Cinemalaya entry, “Belle Douleur” (French for ‘Beautiful Pain’), the directorial debut of Atty. Joji Alonso. Such love stories about an older woman and a younger partner seem to be in vogue these days. Earlier, there was “Glorious”, shown streaming on iWant with Angel Aquino and Tony Labrusca. And there’s another similarly themed Cinemalaya entry, “Malamaya”, with Sunshine Cruz and Enzo Pineda. Then there’s also “Just a Stranger” with Anne Curtis as a lonely married woman who falls for a teener played by Marco Gumabao.
“Siyempre, hindi talaga ako makapaniwala kasi pare-pareho silang icons na tinitingala sa industriya,” she says. “Lahat ng artistang gaya ko, lalo’t bago pa, nangangarap na makatrabaho sila. So malaking karangalan para sa akin to work with them in ‘Isa Pang Bahaghari’. Dream come true ito para sa akin, lalo na nga kung mapapasali kami sa film festival kasi pangarap ko ring magkaroon ng entry doon.”
“Yung Liwanag, middle name ko 'yan, galing sa mother ko whose maiden name is Amelia Liwanag,” he explains. “Also, in this concert kasi, Direk Frank says audiences will see me in a new light dahil marami akong gagawin dito na ngayon ko lang gagawin. Kung ano 'yun, abangan nyo na lang. I’m really excited kasi nag-concert na ako before, but with Matteo (Guidicelli). Noon, pinag-uusapan lang but ngayon, totoo na. Ako na lang, solo, so kinakabahan din ako, but I promise to use my kaba so that I will give my best in the concert.”
JUANCHO Trivino is happy to be part of the acting workshop conducted for Kapuso stars by New York acting coach Anthony Bova who’s currently in town. “It’s a big help for me,” says Juancho. “Kasi the workshop not only helps you improve your acting but your totality as a person, pati 'yung attitude mo sa buhay. Very helpful ito for me lalo ngayong GMA has given a break in my first lead role in a soap.”
LAST year, director Ari Aster debuted in “Hereditary”, one of the most overrated horror flicks ever. Its script is riddled with holes like a wicker basket. It starts as a psychological character study then skids off the track as it toys with supernatural elements then gets totally derailed with a simplistic, poorly constructed ending concerning a cult which is totally in contrast to the low key enigmatic tone of the previous proceedings.
JANELLA Salvador says she’s so happy to be part of the new Kapamilya soap, “The Killer Bride”. “This is a big blessing for me kasi my last soap was two years ago pa,” she adds. “I went through a rough patch in my career and I was asking myself, what will I do next? And then ‘The Killer Bride’ came and I’m really glad because ang ganda na ng story, ang ganda pa ng role ko and it’s really very challenging.”
