National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago ordered the filing of a case before the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office against a former agent owing to an infraction which he described as “kasuklam-suklam.”
The said infraction, according to Santiago, took place during an operation conducted on September 11 in Makati City.
Without divulging the details pending the filing of appropriate case, Santiago said the case had something to do with the arrest of Vietnamese national Nguyen Thi Thu Jan and her alleged Filipino cohorts.
“The filing of cases underscores the policy of non-tolerance for any improper and irregular behavior,. This incident, however, exceeds mere impropriety and irregularity by far. It is illegal, unlawful, unethical, gruesome, grotesque and outrightly unacceptable,” Santiago said.
It was learned that Santiago received a report about the incident, summoned the concerned NBI agent and confronted him. Out of shame, the said NBI agent reportedly resigned.
Just the same, Santiago directed the bureau’s Internal Affairs Division to conduct an investigation and barred the NBI-Special Task Force from conducting any operations, even as he also ordered an overhaul of the STF.
Santiago vowed that rogue members of the NBI will be dealt with accordingly.
