Exec cheats death on All Saints Day

TWO suspected guns-for-hire reportedly out to assassinate a local politician in Biñan City, Laguna, were killed in an All Saints’ Day shootout erupted with the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group, PNP-HPG director, Brigadier General Alexander C. Tagum said.

Operations Division-Task Force Limbas headed by Lieutenant Colonel Joel Manuel Ana out to assassinate the unnamed Biñan City local official prior to the 1 a.m. encounter near a gasoline station along the Manila South Road in Bgy. San Antonio.

The tip prompted the SOD-Task Force Limbas officers to coordinate their operation to thwart the suspects’ plan with the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A headed by Lt. Col. Samson Belmonte and the Biñan City Municipal Police Station led by Lt. Col. Giovanni Martinez, said Tagum.

Tagum said the suspects were on board a blue Ford Fiesta sporting the commemorative plate ‘Mayor’ on its front and plate no. TFF04 at the back when they were spotted near the gasoline station 12:55 a.m.

When flagged down for inspection, the suspects reportedly opened fire at the lawmen before speeding towards the the Pavilion Mall and counter-flowing a one-way street along Greenfield Parkway Avenue before going towards the Mamplasan SLEX Toll where they were cornered.

SOD-Task Force Limbas agents exchanged fire with the gunmen until the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an elevated curb where they were eventually shot to death.

Tagum said the two suspects were later identified as ‘ex-convicts and members of a gun-for-hire group operating in Southern Luzon area.’ The names of the two were not immediately released by the PNP-HPG however.

Recovered from the slain suspects’ possession were one caliber .45 pistol, one cal. .38 revolver and several live ammunition. Also found inside their vehicle were numerous fake identification cards and plate numbers.
